Ill – Gotten Gains

You may have heard of the saying “Possession is nine tenths of the law”. It has been glibly bandied around by people who think they are justifying themselves. The nine tenths which they refer to are of course the ten commandments which are listed in the old testament of the bible in the book of Exodus chapter 20. The reason why they don’t give the full 10 out of 10 is because they break the 8th commandment says “You shall not steal”.

Are We Accountable?

Are We Accountable?

This is a very real question that must be answered. The obvious answer to this question in life is yes. If you are in school or college, you are accountable to your teachers or lecturers and parents. If you are in work, then you are answerable to the boss or manager who has been placed over you, however competent or otherwise he or she may be. If you are self – employed, you are answerable to your clients. You are also answerable to the government (revenue commissioners) in paying what you owe.

The Requirements of Love

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.Today, words such as “love” or “True Love” get bandied around a lot. It seems to be a very throw away phrase but the implications are very real. Often times they are used with improper motives with a man or as may be the case boy says to a woman or a girl. In such cases, it is not true love at play but lust. Lust is the exact opposite of love. Lust is very self centred and is only involved to see what can be gained, mostly to get the other person into bed, thus doing more harm than good.

The Angels

He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire - Hebrews 1:7

In the Ireland today, especially since the collapse of the main stream denominational churches some people are consulting spirits, mediums and angels. They are trying to connect with “their angels” and other spirits who they think are out to do them good. While sometimes this can be the case, it rarely happens. Oftentimes it is quite the opposite, they seek to do us harm because they are enemies of God. We have been made in the image of God – Genesis 1:27.

The Twisted Gospel

There is a massive myth out there today and encompasses most religions around the world. The idea is that you can earn your way into heaven by doing good works and be saved from the wrath to come – That somehow your good deeds will balance or outweigh the bad you have done and you will be ok. A lot of people seem to think “I’m no saint, but I’m not as bad as them”. The thing is that when you stand before the Judgement seat or pearly gates (as some call it), you will not be compared to the heroes and villains of history, your family, neighbours or friends, classmates, colleagues etc. You will be compared to the standard The Lord set – his just and holy law, which every one of us have violated – Romans 3:23.
